Behaviour Analytic and Consultative Services

Providing an Individualized, Person-Centred Approach to Behaviour Change from a Functional Contextual Point of View
About Me:
My name is Mary Penrice-Edmondson
Welcome to my practice. I am Mary, a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst extensive experience in supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, dual diagnoses, and autism spectrum disorder. For over20 years, I have collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to deliver interventions for clients exhibiting severe challenges. My commitment is to empower caregivers and professionals through training and supervision, fostering the skills necessary to achieve optimal outcomes for those we serve.

As an ACT Matrix Facilitator and Trainer, I work from a point of view that promotes psychological flexibility, and psychological safety. Evolved from ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Training), the ACT Matrix is a visual process that increases psychological flexibility from a Functional Contextual point of view. It addresses behaviour change by examining the relationships between behaviour and the context in which it occurs from the observer self-view and enhancing intrinsic motivation.

BIOGRAPHY
Monica Peters earned her Master’s in Applied Disabilities Studies (ABA specialization) from Brock University and became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in 2014. Since 2008, she has supported children, adolescents, and adults with moderate to profound intellectual disabilities, co-occurring mental health challenges, and autism spectrum disorder—always in close collaboration with their families and caregivers.
As a research assistant with Dr. Alison Cox at Brock University, Monica is exploring how psychotropic medications relate and impact challenging behaviours in adults with dual diagnoses. She also serves as a Behaviour Analyst with Nova Scotia Health Authority’s community outreach program (COAST), working alongside group homes, family residences, and hospital units to build consistent supports that enhance both safety and quality of life for adults aged 19 and up.
Since 2018, Monica has volunteered with the Atlantic Provinces Association for Behavior Analysis (APABA), holding the roles of secretary, president-elect, and president. Through these positions she’s helped connect practitioners across Atlantic Canada and create opportunities for shared learning.
In her clinical work, Monica applies Nonlinear Contingency Analysis—a systems-informed framework—to understand the personal and environmental factors that maintain behaviours, and to co-design interventions that fit each individual’s context.
Monica was trained directly by Dr. Kevin Polk, developer of the ACT Matrix, and has been a certified ACT Matrix Trainer since 2020. She integrates the Matrix as a core framework in her consultation work with caregivers, using it to clarify values, identify workability, and support flexible, values-consistent responding in the people who support her clients.
